What is Gear Up Rugby?

Gear Up Rugby is designed to give girls’ rugby clubs (U12–U18) the funding they need to improve access to the sport. We’ve created a fund that we’re sharing with grassroots clubs across the country and we’ve joined forces with rugby legend Ugo Monye to spread the word.

This funding can be used for a range of activities, from buying new equipment, kit and supporting travel expenses, to delivering community outreach to develop the girls’ sport. Plus, the fund increases for every Continental Tyre sold at Protyre Autocare before 31st October 2025. So, by supporting us, you’ll be helping more clubs to excel!

Gear Up Rugby is a movement built on community, teamwork, and the belief that every girl deserves the chance to play. Together, we can make rugby stronger, more inclusive, and accessible to all.

Join us in inspiring the future of the game.

Don't miss out, apply for funding for your girls’ rugby club and nominate a local club today. Applications for Gear Up Rugby funding is open until 31st October 2025.

Why are we supporting Girls’ Rugby?

Girls’ rugby is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide - with girl’s grassroots participation growing 9.3% each year. Yet despite this surge in interest, many girls grassroots clubs face challenges in providing the facilities, kit, and coaching needed to keep pace with demand. Through Gear Up Rugby, our funding to local clubs will provide vital support to help more girls enjoy playing rugby and access grassroots sport.

Why not become a champion of girls’ rugby and nominate your local grassroots rugby club so we can Gear Up Rugby!

Be a champion of local sport and help us to get more girls out on the pitch.

No matter how small your funding request, we want to hear about it

Gear Up Rugby can provide funding for whatever your local club needs!

• Essential kit: rugby balls, cones, tackle pads, bibs and more

• Coaching and development: coaching qualifications, first aid training and referee courses

• Player support: kits, boots, gum shields and travel to matches

Community engagement: taster sessions, open days and other local rugby initiatives

Our rugby funding is flexible, so your club can request support based on its own specific needs.

At Protyre Autocare, we’re all about the journey – whether that’s behind the wheel or out on the field. We pride ourselves on being central to the local communities we operate in, providing expert advice and keeping our customers on the move.

Our ‘here to help’ commitment extends well beyond our garages. In fact, we consider ourselves to be community champions.

By day, our teams on the ground use their expertise to keep our customers safe on the road.

By night, they put themselves at the heart of communities through a wealth of activities charity fundraising, volunteering with local organisations and their love of local sport through coaching.

Rugby is built on community, which is why we’re proud to support the Gear Up Rugby campaign and help make a positive impact that goes far beyond keeping out customers safe on the road.

At Continental Tyres, we do more than just support from the sidelines, we help make real difference in the communities where the game begins. As a proud partner of England Rugby, Continental Tyres has long championed the values of teamwork, resilience, and determination, which are just as important off the pitch as they are on it.

Through Gear Up Rugby, Continental Tyres is helping to break down barriers for local girls’ rugby clubs by ensuring they have access to the resources they need to flourish as young players. Every club funded is another opportunity for young players to discover the joy of rugby, build their confidence, and feel part of something bigger.

By partnering with Protyre Autocare, Continental Tyres is also turning everyday tyre purchases into positive change, with a percentage from every sale going directly into the Gear Up Rugby fund. Together, we are proving that small actions, multiplied across communities, can create a lasting impact for the future of girls’ rugby.

Grassroots Rugby is the first stepping stone to the elite game of Rugby. It is the heart and soul of the sport, where anyone can join in and play. From young children learning to play rugby for the first time, to adults looking to stay healthy, active and have fun.

Rugby at the grassroots level often refers to the local, community-based level of the sport, where amateur clubs and amazing volunteers foster a friendly environment to hopefully inspire the next generation.

It is vitally important that this entry level of Rugby is properly funded and supported to ensure the game can continue to grow, while making sure everyone feels welcome and included. The Gear Up Rugby campaign is a great opportunity to grow the grassroots game and get girls participating in the sport.
